Review by the Midwest Book Review

Author Maren O. Mitchell has learned how to cope with chronic pain from spinal cord damage, over the course of twenty-five years. Maren’s book Beat Chronic Pain, An Insider’s Guide, shows techniques for alleviating pain and improving quality of life without relying on drugs or other expensive treatments. The focus is upon mastering pain through mastering one’s mind, from the values of exercise to counter depression, to the value of experiencing simple daylight, to mental techniques such as self-hypnosis, prayer, or meditation, and much more. “One of our main barriers to feeling better is excuses. I can always find reasons to not exercise, to not rest, and to not socialize, even though I know I will feel better afterwards.” Beat Chronic Pain is highly recommended as a valuable, supplemental advice guide for anyone who suffers from chronic pain – or as an eye-opening, tell-it-like-it-is experience for friends and relatives of such individuals.
